Morocco will co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal, and in this context, it plans to invest nearly $4.2 billion to upgrade its airport infrastructure.
With this investment, Morocco aims to increase its annual airport passenger capacity from 38 million to 80 million.
Moroccan officials, who attach great importance to the World Cup, believe the tournament will attract a large number of tourists to the country afterward.
The main focus of the investment will be Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca, the country’s busiest aviation hub.
A new terminal and an additional runway will be built at the airport. The cost of this project alone is estimated to be $2.5 billion.
In addition, airports in key tourist cities such as Marrakech, Agadir, Tangier, and Fez will also be expanded and renovated.
Morocco sees these investments and the World Cup as major opportunities for economic development. A significant economic boost is expected as a result.
