On Tuesday, Morocco’s Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, met with the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Suminwa Tuluka Judith, in Rabat to discuss expanding cooperation between the two nations on a range of key issues.
During the meeting, Akhannouch congratulated Judith on her historic appointment as the first female Prime Minister of the DRC, following her appointment in April. He praised the strong, longstanding relationship between Morocco and the DRC, emphasizing the shared determination to enhance bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening ties under the leadership of King Mohammed VI of Morocco and President Félix Tshisekedi of the DRC.
Akhannouch also highlighted the active solidarity between the two countries, particularly their mutual defense of national unity and territorial integrity. This solidarity was underscored by Morocco’s ongoing participation in peacekeeping operations in the DRC since the 1960s, and the DRC’s support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara. The DRC’s decision to open a Moroccan consulate in Dakhla in December 2020 was also noted as a significant step in reinforcing this alliance.
The talks also focused on the potential for further economic collaboration, with both leaders emphasizing the importance of strengthening consultations ahead of the upcoming Joint Commission meeting. Plans to revitalize the Morocco-DRC Business Council were also discussed, with both parties expressing optimism about the prospects for increased trade and investment.
