Morocco continues to make history at the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
As the only remaining African team in the tournament, Morocco secured a spot in the quarterfinals after today’s match.
Facing South Korea, Morocco took the lead in the 8th minute when Korean defender Shin Min-Ha scored an own goal. In the second half, Yassir Zabiri doubled the lead. South Korea managed to pull one back in the final moments through a penalty converted by Kim Tae-won, but it wasn’t enough to change the outcome.
With this result, Morocco earned a major morale boost and booked their place in the quarterfinals. They will face the United States in the next round, which will take place on October 12.
Meanwhile, South Korea had finished fourth in the previous tournament and were runners-up in the one before that. This victory provided a significant confidence boost for Morocco.
The other teams advancing to the quarterfinals are Spain, Colombia, Mexico, Argentina, Norway, and France.
