Morocco have been crowned champions of CHAN 2024, also known as the African Nations Championship. RS Berkane forward Oussama Lamlioui, the tournament’s top scorer, starred once again in the final by scoring twice.
The thrilling encounter between Madagascar and Morocco saw momentum shift back and forth. Madagascar struck first in the 9th minute through Felicite Mantasoa, who beat Moroccan goalkeeper Mehdi Harrar with a long-range effort.
Morocco responded in the 27th minute when Youssef Mehri found the equalizer to make it 1-1. Just before halftime, Oussama Lamlioui stepped up to score Morocco’s second goal, sending his team into the break with the lead.
Madagascar started the second half strongly, and Toky Rokotondraibe leveled the match at 2-2 in the 68th minute, giving his side hope. But in the 80th minute, Lamlioui struck again with another powerful shot from distance, sealing a 3-2 victory for Morocco and the championship title.
The third-place playoff was held yesterday between Senegal and Sudan. After a 1-1 draw, the match went to penalties, where Senegal triumphed 4-2 to secure third place in the tournament.
