A two-day forum in Mombasa is facilitating business discussions between Tunisian and Kenyan companies, aiming to explore opportunities for collaboration and investment in the coastal region.
Fifteen Tunisian firms have arrived in Mombasa to attend the inaugural Tunisian-Kenyan Business Forum, seeking to expand their business operations. The event, led by Tunisian Ambassador Anouar Ben Youssef, provides a platform for the exchange of ideas and the formation of potential business deals.
Ambassador Youssef emphasized the strategic significance of Mombasa, stating that the city plays a crucial role in the economic landscape of Kenya and serves as a gateway to both Tunisia and the broader African continent. Tunisia’s ties with Kenya through regional organizations, such as COMESA and the African Free Trade Zone, are expected to strengthen economic cooperation.
This forum follows several successful business events organized by the Tunisian embassy in previous years, though this marks the first time the event is being hosted in Mombasa. Youssef underscored that Mombasa’s growing importance in Kenya’s economy was a key factor in choosing the location.
Key local figures, including Abud Jamal, Chairman of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) Mombasa, played an instrumental role in the forum’s organization. Jamal highlighted that the event would foster stronger partnerships between Kenyan and Tunisian business communities, building on a reciprocal visit to Tunisia earlier this year.
Mombasa’s county government, represented by Jeizan Farouk, expressed support for initiatives that drive foreign direct investment and create jobs for the local population. Through public-private partnerships, the county aims to bolster Mombasa’s economic development and enhance collaboration with national government agencies.
This forum presents an important step towards deepening bilateral economic ties between Tunisia and Kenya, with both countries eager to capitalize on new opportunities for growth and development in the region.
