At the AI for Good Summit held in Geneva, Smart Africa mobilized African governments to advance AI policy across the continent.
Bringing together representatives from more than ten African countries, Smart Africa introduced a harmonised Model AI Policy Framework aimed at guiding the 70% of African nations that currently lack a national AI strategy.
In addition, global partners such as the World Bank, ITU (International Telecommunication Union), and UNESCO pledged technical support to accelerate the implementation of this initiative.
During the summit, countries like Kenya, Algeria, and Ghana shared their experiences, while Smart Africa highlighted the lessons learned from implementations in these nations.
This new initiative represents a strategic step forward for the development of artificial intelligence across Africa.
Moreover, the soon-to-be-launched Community of Practice is expected to promote AI learning across the continent.
In the long term, this will help ensure that Africa becomes not only a consumer of AI but also a producer in the global artificial intelligence ecosystem.
