Maxime Lopez, who has been instrumental in helping Paris FC earn promotion to Ligue 1 with his recent impressive performances, has also contributed to his team’s 11th-place standing in the French top flight this season.
The team captain, Lopez, has managed to record three assists this season despite playing as a defensive midfielder, making significant contributions both in attack and defense.
At 27 years old, Lopez has yet to feature for the France national team despite his achievements. However, he is also eligible to represent the Algerian national team. In an interview with Canal Plus, Lopez revealed that, through his mother, he could consider this option.
“If the Algerian national team calls me, I’ll go,” he said.
“People might say I’m opportunistic because this year there’s AFCON and the World Cup. But even if it weren’t a season with those tournaments, I would still go if I were called up. I’m a competitor, and I want to play at the national level as well.”
Lopez continued:
“People might say I’ve talked about the France national team for years, but honestly, I’ve always spoken about France because the Algerian national team never contacted me. Recently, they reached out to check on me. If I’m called up, I’ll go, but we’ll see what happens in the future.”
