When Mamelodi Sundowns drew in the FIFA Club World Cup, all African teams were eliminated from the tournament.
However, despite this, the reigning South African champions earned R228 million from the competition.
The historic South African club received R174 million for participating, and they earned an additional R36 million for their 1-0 victory over Ulsan Hyundai. They also secured R18 million for their 0-0 draw against the Brazilian team Fluminense.
Had they not been unlucky in the group stage and lost 4-3 to the German giants Borussia Dortmund, they might have advanced further in the tournament.
The tournament, featuring teams from all over the world, continues with the round of 16 matches at full speed. The final match is scheduled for July 13th.
