Napoli, the Serie A leader, was thoroughly dismantled by Nigerian footballer Ademola Lookman’s outstanding performance.
Atalanta claimed such a dominant victory that it marked what may have been one of the worst matches in Antonio Conte’s career as Napoli’s head coach, despite the team’s previous success.
Following this match, the Nigerian forward rose to third place in Italy, just behind his teammate Mateo Retegui and Inter’s Marcus Thuram.
With this victory, Atalanta is now only three points behind the league leaders, with one game in hand. If Ademola Lookman can maintain his current form, he could very well lead his team to a championship in one of the world’s top three or four leagues, Serie A.
Lookman struck first in the 10th minute at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, scoring from a narrow angle after receiving a brilliant assist from Charles De Ketelaere. He executed a skilled finish to find the back of the net. Then, in the 31st minute, he created his own opportunity and fired a superb shot, netting his and his team’s second goal.
Near the end of the game, Mateo Retegui scored the third goal, sealing Atalanta’s 3-0 victory over Napoli.
