Lille, one of the top teams in the French league, has made an official offer for Fenerbahçe’s Ghanaian defender Alexander Djiku.
Fenerbahçe was not planning to keep the player in their squad for next season and intended to transfer him permanently. However, Lille submitted a loan offer for the Ghana international. If both clubs can reach an agreement on the payment of his salary, the transfer could be finalized in a short time.
Before José Mourinho’s arrival, Djiku delivered an impressive performance during the 2023-2024 season and became a fan favorite with his solid defending. However, Mourinho, who generally prefers a three-man defense, was looking for a centre-back capable of building play from the back. For this reason, Mert Müldür took Djiku’s place last season. Despite being a natural right-back, Müldür was deployed as a centre-back instead of Djiku.
Djiku was not the only Fenerbahçe player Lille had their eye on. They were also interested in making an offer for Diego Carlos, who was signed last season but is no longer part of the club’s plans. However, unlike Djiku, his €3.5 million salary was deemed too high, leading Lille to withdraw from that pursuit.
