Libya’s Prime Minister, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, has declared that the government will fully fund the cost of the hajj pilgrimage for its citizens this year, estimated at over 50,000 Libyan dinars per individual. Citizens who prefer to pay for their pilgrimage independently will still have the option to do so.
In his announcement, Dbeibah criticized the performance of committees responsible for assisting pilgrims in previous years, emphasizing the need for qualified personnel to be selected under strict guidelines. He also warned against favoritism and undue influence in the selection process.
The Hajj Authority has begun reviewing the data of registered applicants in preparation for choosing 7,800 Libyans to participate in this year’s pilgrimage. The move underscores the government’s commitment to facilitating religious observances for its citizens while ensuring greater accountability in the process.
