The first leg of the CAF Champions League final has been played. In a match held in South Africa, Mamelodi Sundowns drew 1-1 with FC Pyramids.
The game was mostly dominated by Sundowns, who controlled possession and created more chances. In the 54th minute, South African side’s star Lucas Ribeiro stepped up and gave his team a 1-0 lead.
Had the match ended with that score, Sundowns would have had a clear advantage going into the second leg.
However, in the 94th minute, Egyptian club FC Pyramids found a dramatic equalizer through Walid El Karti, leveling the score at 1-1. The match ended in a draw.
The second and decisive leg will be played on June 1st, and the outcome of that match will determine who will be crowned Africa’s best club. With the first leg ending in a draw, FC Pyramids gained a significant advantage.
If Sundowns hope to become champions, they must secure a win on Egyptian soil.
