The Lagos State Government and the City of London have launched a partnership to promote the exchange of technological innovations and encourage collaboration between the two cities.
This partnership was announced by the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, during a tech summit held in Lagos. According to Khan, this collaboration will accelerate the digital transformation process for both cities.
Khan described Lagos as the tech capital of Africa and stated that London holds the same status in Europe.
He noted that London, home to over 150,000 people of Nigerian descent, presents a major opportunity for partnership and growth.
Addressing Nigerian entrepreneurs, Khan said that London is a familiar and welcoming hub for them.
Lagos Commissioner for Innovation, Science, and Technology, Olatubosun Alake, acknowledged Nigeria’s challenges such as erratic electricity and heavy traffic, but emphasized the country’s ongoing technological development.
He stressed that broadband connectivity alone would not be enough to unlock Lagos’s full potential and that deeper, stronger relationships must be built.
Alake said the goal is to combine London’s financial strength with Lagos’s dynamic innovation landscape.
Through this partnership, advancements are expected in digital finance, ethical data use, and the creation of a North-South tech corridor anchored in Lagos and London.
