Kenyan athlete Brian Kipsang has been banned from competition for two years due to doping.
On March 16, 2025, during a urine test conducted in Rome, Italy, a substance called Triamcinolone Acetonide, which is listed on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) 2025 Prohibited List, was detected.
This glucocorticoid is allowed for use outside of competition for therapeutic purposes. Athletes who use it with a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) are exempt from sanctions. However, Kipsang did not possess such an exemption.
The official announcement regarding his ban was made on May 5, 2025. Kipsang is now ineligible to participate in any World Athletics competitions until May 1, 2027.
Additionally, all results, medals, points, and prizes he earned since March 16, 2025, have been disqualified.
Kenya has been facing a growing number of doping cases in recent times. In response, Victor Ashiali, an educator from the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK), urged athletes to stay away from supplements unless advised by a medical professional.
“Be careful about the supplements you buy and consume. Since the market is unregulated, it is best to stay away from them,” said Ashiali.
