Kenya’s Rhonzas Lokitam Kilimo and Ethiopia’s Bizuager Aderra won the 47th Istanbul Marathon held this Sunday.
In the men’s race, Kilimo claimed first place with a time of 2 hours, 10 minutes, and 12 seconds. He was followed by Ethiopian runners Dejene Debela and Sufaro Woliyi Kebato, who finished second and third respectively.
In the women’s division, Kenya and Ethiopia continued their dominance. Aderra secured the top spot with a time of 2 hours, 26 minutes, and 19 seconds, followed by her compatriot Sofia Assefa Abebe and Kenyan runner Joan Jepkosgei Kilimo.
With more than 41,000 participants, the 42-kilometer race is known as the only marathon in the world that takes place across two continents.
Runners start on the Asian side of Istanbul, cross the 15 July Martyrs Bridge, and finish the race on the European side.
