At the East Africa Chess Championship held in Nakuru County, Kenya, the KCB Chess Team was named the Best Corporate Team.
After the team’s victory, KCB’s Martin Njoroge made the following statement:
“I am very happy to have won the corporate category with my team. We have an incredible pool of talent, and despite missing some players, we were able to bring the trophy home. After this win, we will focus on the upcoming league that starts next week.”
Another KCB player, Boera Felix, finished sixth with four points, while his teammate Joyce Nyaruai placed 12th. This time, she decided to compete in the open category instead of the women’s:
“I’ve always played in the women’s category, but for this tournament, I decided to compete in the open category to face some of the best talent in the region. The competition was really tough, but I’m happy to have finished in a good position. We are looking forward to more such tournaments in the future.”
In the open category, KCB’s Brian Irungu delivered a strong performance, finishing second with five points. The tournament was won by James Madol from South Sudan with 5.5 points.
