Kaizer Chiefs, who had made a flying start to the South African League, are now on the brink of a shock elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup.
Considered one of the early favorites for the tournament, the South African side suffered a 1-0 defeat against Angolan club Kabuscorp.
The second leg of the preliminary tie will be played on Saturday, but Chiefs are expected to secure at least a two-goal margin of victory to progress.
Things have not been going well for Kaizer Chiefs in recent days. Head coach Nasreddine Nabi is preparing to leave the club and has requested to terminate his contract, creating chaos in what had begun as a promising season.
At present, Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze are in charge on an interim basis.
While the current crisis may eventually be resolved, Chiefs urgently need a quick and temporary solution to keep their CAF Confederation Cup hopes alive.
