Chinese multinational company Huawei has opened a smart warehouse facility in South Africa, focused on green energy, e-security, and modern logistics.
Equipped with state-of-the-art warehouse management systems, the facility also features artificial intelligence for access control.
Huawei South Africa CEO Will Meng shared insights about the facility, which was inaugurated in Johannesburg:
“The warehouse facility is split into two sections, one section is dedicated to in and outbound tech movement, while the other section handles localized supplies and spare parts.”
“Huawei boasts a robust global supply chain, with approximately 1,400 warehouses spanning over five million square meters.”
“We hope that with the launch of this smart warehouse, we will inspire collaborative effort within South Africa’s warehouse and logistics industries.”
According to Meng, the facility serves as a central hub for Huawei in South Africa, supporting the company’s customers and partners by ensuring a continuous energy supply.
He also mentioned that Huawei has previously launched smart warehouse projects in the Asia-Pacific region, Latin America, and the Middle East. This facility in South Africa marks Huawei’s first smart warehouse on the African continent.
The project sets a precedent for similar developments across Africa, suggesting a future trend of expanding smart logistics infrastructure on the continent.
