Benin-born Burnley striker Andreas Hountondji has agreed to join Belgian Pro League side Standard Liege on a six-month loan deal.
The player was also attracting interest from Royal Antwerp but ultimately chose Standard Liege. The 22-year-old forward had previously transferred from French Ligue 2 side Caen to English Championship club Burnley.
During his time at Burnley, Hountondji made just nine appearances, only two of which were as part of the starting XI. His loan deal to Liege does not include a purchase option, and he still has three and a half years left on his contract with Burnley.
Standard Liege head coach Ivan Leko is reportedly keen to utilize Hountondji as a replacement for their injured forward Mohamed Badamosi. Meanwhile, Liege is also looking to finalize the signing of Burnley defender Hannes Delcroix alongside this loan deal.
Hountondji’s move to Liege could benefit the striker by providing him with more playing time, which would help him regain form and potentially secure a more significant role upon his return to Burnley.
Last season, Hountondji impressed during his loan spell in France, scoring 14 goals and providing four assists in 36 matches.
