Heinrich Klaasen, regarded as one of the most destructive middle-order batters in the world, has decided to retire from international cricket for South Africa.
The star batter last played for the national team in the Champions Trophy semi-final against New Zealand in March. In total, he featured in 60 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 58 T20 matches.
Klaasen announced his decision via social media. In his post, he wrote:
“It is a sad day for me. It took me a long time to decide what’s best for me and my family for the future.”
“It was truly a very difficult decision but also one that I have absolute peace with.
From the first day, it was the biggest privilege representing my country and it was everything that I have worked for and dreamed about as a young boy.”
Klaasen will continue his career in franchise cricket.
