Reigning champions for the past two seasons and currently third in the Kenyan Premier League, Gor Mahia’s right-back Rooney Onyango is set to join Singida Black Stars, a strong side in the Tanzanian Premier League.
The young defender, who transferred to Gor Mahia from Wazito FC, has shown impressive performances during his time with the club. However, Gor Mahia is now looking to strengthen their squad with a top-tier striker.
Sam Ochola, Gor Mahia’s General Secretary, confirmed that the Black Stars have already paid a portion of Onyango’s transfer fee, solidifying the agreement. The presence of Kenyan players such as Elvis Rupia and Joash Onyango in the Tanzanian side played a significant role in the transfer decision.
A national team player, Onyango has delivered impactful performances on the field. Despite his talent, he has encountered disciplinary issues in the past, including a disagreement with former head coach Leonardo Neiva.
Currently trailing league leaders KCB and Tusker by three points, Gor Mahia is determined to win the CAF Champions League. To achieve this goal, they plan to part ways with some players and bring in a top-quality striker to strengthen their squad.
