The Ghanaian Black Maidens team defeated Nigeria’s Super Flamingos to win the WAFU Zone B U-17 Girls Cup.
The match featured beautiful play and a high tempo, with both teams showcasing fast counterattacks. The ball was constantly moving from one goal to the other, creating a thrilling atmosphere.
In the 13th minute, Ghana took the lead following a corner kick, with Getrude Amoafoa scoring the opening goal. Just five minutes later, Priscilla Mensah, playing for Sissamba Ladies, stepped up and doubled Ghana’s lead, making it 2-0.
Although Ghana had a 2-0 advantage, Nigeria played an excellent game and was still very much in the match. The first half ended 2-0, but in the 53rd minute of the second half, Precious Chiemerie Oscar broke through Ghana’s defense and reduced the lead to 2-1, keeping Nigeria’s comeback hopes alive.
Nigeria continued their comeback effort, and in the 78th minute, Chidera Harmony Chidi scored with a clinical finish, leveling the score at 2-2.
With no goals scored in regulation time, the match went to a penalty shootout. Ghana edged out Nigeria 5-4 in the shootout, securing the win and claiming the trophy.
