Ghana’s Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, has issued a warning to telecom operators in the country.
He stated that if they fail to improve service quality by the end of this year, they will face financial penalties.
Samuel Nartey George made this statement during a meeting with the CEOs of MTN Ghana, Telecel Ghana, and AT. Despite Ghana’s developed infrastructure, the Minister expressed dissatisfaction with the underperformance of the telecommunications sector.
A recent assessment by the National Communications Authority (NCA) revealed inconsistent service quality among the three major operators. As a result, the Minister announced the launch of a nationwide service quality audit.
Operators who fail to meet the required standards will be fined. Additionally, 40% of the fines collected will be returned to affected consumers in the form of bonus data or call time.
