According to his Fulham teammate Kenny Tete, Nigeria’s most valuable centre-back Calvin Bassey may be on the verge of opening a new chapter in his career.
After joining Ajax from Rangers in 2022 for €23 million, Bassey failed to meet expectations in the Netherlands. However, following his move to Fulham a year later, he managed to rebuild his reputation and make headlines once again.
Teammate Tete summed up the situation, suggesting that Bassey could be set for a move to a bigger club:
“When he came here, things weren’t going well at Ajax, but I don’t think Ajax was in a good place at the time either. Maybe it just wasn’t the right environment. Here, he’s the perfect fit. Everyone loves him. Fulham won’t be his final destination.”
Bassey also struggled at first in the Premier League. At one point, he even topped the league’s “errors leading to goals” chart. However, he quickly recovered from that dip in form and has since become one of Fulham’s standout performers.
Today, Bassey is considered one of the key players for the Nigerian national team, and it appears he may be ready to take the next big step in his career.
Reports suggest that Galatasaray could be his next destination. Although Fulham are said to value the player at around €40 million, Galatasaray might be able to negotiate a more reasonable deal to sign him during the winter transfer window.
