One of Africa’s leading financial technology giants, Flutterwave, has obtained a license to operate in Senegal.
This marks a significant step in leveraging the country’s rapidly growing mobile money ecosystem and digital economy.
With the Payment Institution License granted by the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO), the company will now be able to operate fully within Senegal.
This license, along with others previously secured, clearly demonstrates Flutterwave’s aggressive growth strategy across the continent.
SENEGAL IS LEADING THE WAY IN AFRICA’S FINTECH DEVELOPMENT
In recent years, Senegal has become one of the most important players in Africa’s digital payments space.
By the end of 2025, the country’s digital payments market is expected to reach $3.08 billion, and by 2030, it is projected to exceed $8.15 billion.
With 74% of the population under the age of 40, 60% internet penetration, and the widespread use of mobile money platforms such as Wave, Orange Money, and Free Money, the sector is gaining increasing importance every day.
Thanks to Flutterwave’s presence in Senegal, access to digital tools such as cross-border payments in West African CFA francs and integrated APIs for platforms like Shopify and WooCommerce will increase.
This will make it easier and more secure for both local businesses and international companies to operate in the Senegalese market.
