Africa’s premier club competitions, the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, continue with their first preliminary round matches.
On Sunday, 12 teams advanced to the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League, while eight teams progressed in the CAF Confederation Cup.
In the Champions League, Monastir and JS Kabylie scored a total of seven goals across their two-legged fixtures, easily defeating East End Lions and Bibiani Gold Stars to advance. Kenya Police FC, despite losing on the day, progressed on aggregate over Mogadishu City.
ASEC, having won the first leg against Power Dynamos, went to penalties after the second leg ended in a draw and ultimately advanced.
Teams that struggled in the first leg, including Al-Hilal, Colombe, Al Ahly Tripoli, Rivers United, and FC Nouadhibou, performed strongly in the second leg and moved on. Simba SC eliminated Gaborone United with a 2-1 aggregate score over two matches.
In the Confederation Cup, OC Safi and ZESCO United advanced with comfortable victories. Azam, USFA, and Asante Kotoko defeated Al Merreikh, Gbohloé-su des Lacs, and Kwara United in both legs to progress. AS Otohô, Djoliba, Kaizer Chiefs, and Flambeau du Centre were the other teams to advance.
The first preliminary rounds of both tournaments are not yet fully complete, with additional matches scheduled in the coming days.
