Kenyan taekwondo athlete Faith Ogallo won the gold medal in the +73 kg category at the African Open Series Zone 5 Championship held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
This victory secured her qualification for the upcoming African Taekwondo Championships finals scheduled to be held in Mali later this year.
Ogallo overcame opponents from Tanzania, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Djibouti, Uganda, and Somalia with her technique and strength. Reflecting on her success, she stated:
“Taekwondo has shaped my character, built my resilience, and shown me how sport can transform lives.”
Ogallo began her sports career in basketball. After switching to taekwondo, she won her first gold medal at the Rwanda Korean Ambassadors Championship just three months later.
She claimed silver at the 2019 African Games and represented Kenya at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, finishing seventh in the women’s +67 kg category.
In 2021, Ogallo won the bronze medal at the African Taekwondo Championship. Despite limited training facilities in Bungoma, she continues to showcase her growth and success.
Through her achievements, she has become a role model for future generations.
