The semi-finalists of the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations have been determined. These four teams have also secured direct qualification for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Last year’s champions, Senegal, were eliminated by Nigeria. The match ended 0-0 in regular time, but Nigeria advanced to the next round after winning 3-1 in the penalty shootout.
In another match of the day, Ghana faced Egypt. The game ended in a 2-2 draw. Ghana had fallen behind 2-0 early in the match but managed to come back and equalize in the final moments.
During extra time, Ghanaian player Aaron Essel received a red card. Despite this, Ghana held on to take the match to penalties but ultimately lost 5-4 to Egypt in the shootout.
The match between Morocco and Sierra Leone also ended 0-0 in regular time. However, Morocco scored during extra time and advanced to the next round.
The final match of the day was between South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo. This match, too, ended 0-0 in regular time. In extra time, South Africa scored and the match ended 1-0.
Following these results, the semi-final matchups will be South Africa vs Nigeria and Morocco vs Egypt.
