Ethiopia has unveiled a National Coffee Platform to address challenges in its coffee industry and enhance production and exports. The initiative aims to improve quality, branding, and marketing while fostering stakeholder collaboration.
The National Coffee Stakeholder Engagement Platform, launched in Addis Ababa, will serve as a forum for industry players to discuss key aspects of coffee cultivation, marketing, and productivity. Adugna Debela, director-general of the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority, emphasized the platform’s role in setting quality standards and promoting specialty coffee trading.
State Minister of Finance for Economic Cooperation Semereta Sewasew highlighted the platform as a significant move toward overcoming industry challenges and seizing new opportunities.
Ethiopia, a world-renowned coffee producer, earned $1.43 billion from coffee exports in the last fiscal year, with plans to increase revenue to $2 billion in the 2024/2025 fiscal year. The platform is expected to play a critical role in achieving this target.
