The decisions made by the current 14th Congress of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) have been deemed “null and void” by a conference with the theme “Salvation of the People and the Party,” which was chaired by Getachew Reda, President of the Tigray Interim Administration and Deputy Chairman of the TPLF.
The goal of yesterday’s regional meeting, according to a statement released after it ended, was to address Tigray’s ongoing dilemma, with a focus on the political environment of the TPLF.Participants in this forum included members of the audit commission, leadership from the regional, zonal, and district levels within the region, and members of the TPLF Central Committee who did not attend the 14th Congress, according to regional media outlet Dimtsi Weyane.
“Our party and our people are in danger from the 14th Congress, which is dangerous and unlawful since it is being run for the advantage of a small faction. The statement continues, “Therefore, the decisions made during the conference are unacceptable.””Everyone must oppose this illegal activity as it puts our party and our people in danger.”
“This group will be held accountable for any detrimental consequences arising from the illegal assembly,” the statement added.
The gathering, presided over by President Getachew, reiterated in a statement its adherence to the Pretoria Peace Agreement and emphasized its importance as the outcome of the people’s sacrifice and suffering.
Until a democratically elected government is created, the conference also promised to support the interim administration and aid in recovery and reconstruction operations.
The statement expressed worry about the TPLF’s difficulty in registering as a political party, blamed these obstacles on the careless behavior of some, and promised to seek peaceful solutions to the problem.
It also questioned the guests’ judgment, denounced the previous TPLFcongress as unlawful and supporting the interests of a particular faction, and reiterated its dedication to maintaining the party.
Under the direction of its Chairman, Debretsion Gebremichael (PhD), the TPLF’s 14th Congress got underway on August 13, 2024.
The party’s highest legislative body, the 14th Congress, convened amid growing controversy and conspicuous absences. The Vice Chairman of the TPLF and President of the Interim Administration of the Tigray Region, Getachew Reda, was among the fourteen members of the Central Committee who were not present.
The TPLF’s most recent statement states that the congress is expected to end today.
