Ethiopia has generated over $216 million from horticulture exports in the first five months of the 2024/2025 fiscal year, driven largely by flower exports.
The nation exported 39,225 tonnes of flowers, earning $186 million, and 71,305 tonnes of fruits and vegetables, bringing in more than $30 million. Flowers accounted for the majority of revenue, with the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, and the United Kingdom identified as key markets. Fruits and vegetables found major buyers in Somalia, Djibouti, and the Netherlands.
Overall, Ethiopia achieved $2.63 billion in export revenue during the same period, reflecting strong agricultural export performance. Horticulture remains vital for the economy, requiring precise care and management to ensure high yields and protect crops from diseases. Advances in genetic engineering and agrochemical applications have enhanced production, reducing losses and boosting economic growth.
