One of South Africa’s biggest clubs, Kaizer Chiefs, made a solid start to the season but have struggled in recent weeks following the departure of their head coach, Nasreddine Nabi.
After the decision to part ways with the experienced tactician, uncertainty grew around the team’s direction.
At present, the strongest candidate to take charge seems to be Eric Tinkler. Having impressed at both Sekhukune and Cape Town City, Tinkler has built a reputation as one of the most reliable managers in the Premier Soccer League.
His playing career was also legendary. Tinkler won the AFCON in 1996 and represented the South African national team 55 times. For the past 10 years, he has been coaching and has developed a deep understanding of South African football.
This season, his Sekhukune side have started in brilliant fashion. In their first eight matches, they secured six wins and two draws, and they currently sit second in the league despite having games in hand.
Kaizer Chiefs, however, remain a far bigger institution and have been longing for a league title for years. For this reason, Eric Tinkler looks like the most suitable candidate to lead the Glamour Boys back to glory.
