The NBA’s Cameroonian star Joel Embiid was fined $50,000 for making a hand gesture during Philadelphia’s 109-108 loss to the Boston Celtics on Friday.
The 31-year-old center had previously been fined several times for making the same gesture. Embiid explained his action as a reaction to what he believed was an incorrect blocking foul call by the referees:
“If I’m not allowed to do it, then the refs should also be fined for making the ‘lewd’ blocking foul gesture.”
Due to his ongoing recovery from knee surgery, Joel Embiid did not play in Sunday’s game against the Brooklyn Nets, which the 76ers won 129-105.
It was reported that the fine does not restrict his eligibility to play in future games.
