President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt has formally accepted an invitation to attend the 34th Ordinary Arab Summit and the 5th Arab Economic and Social Development Summit, both scheduled for May 17, 2025, in Baghdad.
The invitation was hand-delivered in Cairo by Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, who also conveyed greetings from Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani. The meeting underscored growing diplomatic engagement between the two countries, as Egypt reaffirmed its longstanding ties with Iraq.
President El-Sisi welcomed the invitation and expressed his appreciation to President Abdel-Latif Rashid and Prime Minister Al Sudani. He emphasized the deep-rooted relationship between Cairo and Baghdad, highlighting shared history and common regional interests.
Talks during the meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade, investment, and economic development. Both parties agreed on the importance of enhancing strategic coordination to address common challenges across the Arab world.
Regional affairs dominated much of the discussion, with El-Sisi pledging Egypt’s full support for Iraq’s leadership of the upcoming Arab Summit. He stressed the urgency of cohesive Arab action in light of current regional tensions, reaffirming Egypt’s commitment to collective Arab solidarity.
The situation in Palestine and Syria was also at the forefront. Both sides rejected any displacement of the Palestinian population and reiterated the centrality of the Palestinian issue to the Arab region’s stability. The leaders exchanged views on potential steps to de-escalate tensions and foster regional peace.
The meeting signals a continued alignment between Egypt and Iraq on key diplomatic priorities and reflects broader efforts to reinforce regional unity ahead of the 2025 summits.
