Seventeen-year-old Egyptian squash prodigy Amina Orfi made history on Sunday by winning the VITAGEN Singapore Squash Open 2024, becoming the youngest player to claim a gold-level title in the sport.
Orfi defeated world number three and fellow Egyptian Hania El Hammamy in a thrilling 96-minute final, securing a 4-5 victory. Her triumph breaks the record previously held by Egypt’s Nour El Sherbini, who won the Texas Open at age 18 in 2014.
This victory marks Orfi’s sixth title on the PSA Squash Tour, solidifying her status as one of the sport’s rising stars.
In the men’s tournament, Egypt’s Ali Farag defended his title with a dramatic comeback, defeating Peru’s Diego Elias 3-2 after trailing by two games. The match lasted 70 minutes and showcased Farag’s resilience and skill.
Squash remains a dominant sport in Egypt, with the North African nation consistently producing world-class players. The six-day tournament was held at Singapore’s OCBC Arena and highlighted Egypt’s continued global squash dominance.
