Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, Badr Abdel-Atti, held key meetings on Wednesday with his counterparts from Oman and Iran—Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi and Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi—on the sidelines of the annual Oslo Forum. The discussions centered on current regional tensions and efforts to sustain diplomacy in sensitive areas such as the Iranian nuclear file.
Minister Abdel-Atti reiterated Egypt’s firm position on prioritizing de-escalation across the Middle East. He stated that Egypt strongly opposes any approach that relies on military intervention to resolve conflicts, underscoring the importance of political dialogue and negotiated settlements as the only viable paths to lasting peace.
One of the focal points of the meetings was the ongoing dialogue between the United States and Iran over Tehran’s nuclear program. Abdel-Atti reaffirmed Egypt’s support for this negotiation track and expressed hope that diplomatic efforts would continue to gain momentum. He noted that Egypt had communicated this stance earlier during his June 2 meeting in Cairo with both Iran’s foreign minister and the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
During the conversations, Abdel-Atti listened to the perspectives of both the Omani and Iranian ministers regarding recent developments in the U.S.-Iran talks. He praised the willingness of both Washington and Tehran to remain engaged through peaceful dialogue, describing it as a positive step toward defusing regional tensions.
The Egyptian minister also lauded Oman’s role as a diplomatic facilitator, particularly in encouraging dialogue and bridging gaps between conflicting parties. He emphasized that Egypt supports such mediation initiatives, viewing them as crucial to forging mutual understanding, easing geopolitical frictions, and reinforcing long-term regional security and stability.
The meetings at the Oslo Forum reflect Egypt’s broader diplomatic engagement and its ongoing efforts to position itself as a stabilizing force in the region, promoting peaceful solutions amid increasingly complex geopolitical dynamics.
