Wednesday Morning, two drones targeted a Sudanese army artillery base in Atbara, River Nile State, amid escalating tensions in the region. The attack follows a similar drone strike on Atbara airport earlier this week, with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) suspected of orchestrating the incidents as part of a broader offensive.
One drone, reportedly carrying explosives, detonated near the officers’ quarters mosque, while the second exploded in a field within the eastern training area of the base. Military sources revealed that jamming technology prevented the drones from reaching the primary artillery institute, which stores weapons and ammunition and houses soldiers’ barracks.
Residents of Atbara and nearby Al-Fadlab reported being startled by powerful explosions during the night. Details regarding casualties remain unclear.
The RSF has previously warned of potential assaults on Atbara and Shendi, both key locations in River Nile State where the Sudanese army maintains a significant presence. As a result, the military and its allied forces are on high alert, bracing for further attacks.
