Djoliba, one of Mali’s strongest teams and a club that has reached the CAF Confederation Cup final in its history, has launched an interesting campaign to motivate its players.
Having made a mark on the country’s football scene for years alongside their arch-rivals Stade Malien, Djoliba decided to gift each of its players a motorcycle as a motivational reward.
A total of 21 motorcycles were given, but with conditions — they can only be used on training and match days.
In many West African countries, buying a car is not feasible, making motorcycles one of the most popular means of transportation. Djoliba believes these gifts could help inspire success in the CAF Confederation Cup, often referred to as Africa’s version of the UEFA Europa League.
However, to participate in the tournament, they must first pass two preliminary rounds.
Their first opponent will be Abia Warriors, who finished third in the Nigerian league. If Djoliba advances, they will face the winner of another West African derby between USFA of Burkina Faso and AS Gbohloe-Su des Lacs of Togo, with a spot in the group stage at stake.
Teams that make it through the qualifiers will earn a prize of approximately 400,000 USD.
