Five bodies have been found in Kenya, believed to be linked to a religious cult.
According to authorities, more bodies are expected to be discovered in the area. The remains were exhumed in Kwa Binzaro village, located in Kilifi County near Malindi.
The site is close to the area where hundreds of members of a doomsday cult were found dead two years ago. Government pathologist Dr. Richard Njoroge said on Thursday:
“At the start of this exercise, we identified 27 suspected graves. Today, we managed to open six. From those six graves, we recovered five bodies. We also found 10 different body parts scattered in various places around the site.”
Njoroge noted that the search was far from complete, adding:
“We expect to find more bodies.”
Following these discoveries, authorities have launched investigations into 11 suspects.
In 2023, more than 400 bodies were exhumed in the nearby Shakahola Forest, marking one of the deadliest cult-related mass deaths in recent history.
The newly exhumed bodies are now believed to have been starved and suffocated as a result of adopting and promoting extreme religious ideologies.
This suggests a possible connection between the deaths and cult activity.
