Since August, Sudan has been grappling with a devastating cholera outbreak that has claimed 1,316 lives and infected 49,554 people, according to health authorities.
The crisis followed heavy rains and floods in June, which created conditions ideal for the disease’s spread. The situation is worsened by the nation’s fragile healthcare system and ongoing conflict, leaving millions vulnerable.
In response, UNICEF sent 1.4 million cholera vaccine doses to Sudan in October. However, the United Nations has warned that millions of children remain at risk as the outbreak continues to strain resources and deepen the country’s humanitarian crisis.
