Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Morocco on Thursday evening for an official state visit, welcomed by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan at Mohammed V International Airport, under the direction of King Mohammed VI. The visit marks a significant moment in the growing diplomatic and economic relations between the North African kingdom and China.
Upon arrival, President Xi was honored with a formal reception, which included a ceremonial review of the Royal Guard. He was introduced to key Moroccan figures, including Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch and regional leaders, including Abdellatif Maâzouz, the Wali of Casablanca-Settat, and the President of the Regional Council. Senior Chinese officials accompanying the president include Cai Qi, a member of the Communist Party’s Central Committee, and Wang Yi, head of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs.
As part of the traditional Moroccan hospitality, President Xi was greeted with milk and dates before heading to his residence in Casablanca to begin the official portion of his visit.
This visit underscores the ongoing strengthening of ties between Morocco and China, building on the historic partnership initiated during King Mohammed VI’s visit to China in 2016. Both countries are working to further expand cooperation in trade, investment, and cultural exchange, fostering a shared vision of mutual growth.
China, a global leader in commerce and technology, plays an increasingly important role in international politics and economics. As the world’s second-largest economy, China is central to global trade, leading in industries such as artificial intelligence, telecommunications, and renewable energy. With its permanent seat on the UN Security Council, China wields significant influence over global peace and security, making it a vital partner for Morocco.
