The African Nations Championship (CHAN) has officially kicked off.
The tournament is currently in the group stage phase. Group matches and knockout rounds will be played up until the final match on August 30.
In Group A, Morocco, Kenya, Zambia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Angola are competing. Only two teams from this group will advance to the knockout stage.
So far, Morocco and Kenya have secured victories, giving them an early advantage over the other teams in the group.
Group B includes Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, the Central African Republic, and Burkina Faso. Among them, only Tanzania started with a win and has thus gained an advantage.
Group C features Algeria, Guinea, South Africa, Niger, and Uganda. Both Algeria and Guinea began the tournament with victories, putting them in a favorable position.
In Group D, last year’s champions Senegal are joined by Nigeria, Sudan, and the Republic of the Congo. Matches in this group have not yet begun.
This tournament is considered less prestigious compared to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
As a result, many of Africa’s top players continue training with their club teams instead of joining their national sides for CHAN.
