MC Alger drew 0-0 with MC Magra yesterday and secured the league title.
However, during the celebrations after the match, three fans tragically lost their lives after falling from the upper stands of the 5 July Stadium.
The cause of the fall was the collapse of a security barrier, which gave way as fans surged forward to celebrate. As the barrier broke, dozens of supporters fell onto the lower tier and were injured.
The Algerian Ministry of Health stated that more than 70 people were treated in hospitals, with most of them later being discharged.
MC Alger, who won the league title for the second consecutive year, had their trophy presentation ceremony postponed due to the tragic incident.
Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
