The 25th edition of the Carthage Theater Days (JTC) festival commenced on Saturday evening in Tunis, marking a milestone in the Arab world and Africa’s cultural calendar. Running until November 30, the festival is being held under the theme “Theatre is Resistance and Art is Life,” underscoring the transformative power of the arts.
The opening ceremony at the Municipal Theater of Tunis saw the presence of Tunisia’s Minister of Culture, Amina Srarfi, alongside a range of international diplomats, theater professionals, and cultural leaders. The festival’s director, Mohamed Mounir Argui, took the stage to highlight the significance of the festival’s silver anniversary, emphasizing its position as one of the oldest and most respected theater festivals in the region.
The event continued with a captivating performance of Star-Returning, a production from artists of Liangshan in Southwest China. The performance, held at the Opera Theatre in the City of Culture, set the tone for the diverse array of shows to come, showcasing the global reach and cultural exchange that the festival fosters.
This year’s JTC features performances from 32 countries, with a total of 125 theatrical acts on display. The festival offers a unique opportunity for cultural dialogue, bringing together artistic traditions from across the globe and providing Tunisian audiences with a platform for international creative expression.
