Cape Verdean left winger Helio Varela has transferred from Gent to Maccabi Tel Aviv.
The 23-year-old, who joined Gent last summer from Portuguese side Portimonense, had fallen short of expectations.
The Belgian club, having secured only one victory in five matches, decided to make strategic moves to recover quickly.
Last season, the Cape Verdean player featured in 18 games for Gent, scoring 2 goals and providing 1 assist. This was far below the performance he displayed at Portimonense. During that period, the young winger played 37 matches, scoring 6 goals and providing 3 assists.
If Helio Varela gets more playing time and proves himself, he could earn a spot in the national team. The player is still very young and possesses significant potential.
