South African club Orlando Pirates has been handed a R430,000 fine by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Orlando Pirates were eliminated after two legs in their CAF Champions League qualifier against Saint-Eloi Lupopo.
Following the matches, Pirates filed three separate cases against Lupopo’s head coach Guy Bukasa and players Henoc Molia and Ramos Khashala Wanet.
The club argued that Bukasa should not have been on the bench due to a previous CAF suspension stemming from a U-20 AFCON brawl, and questioned the registration status of both Molia and Wanet.
However, all three complaints were dismissed.
In response, the DR Congo club filed counter-claims, which were upheld. Orlando Pirates were fined for two offenses: $5,000 (approximately R86,000) for denying Lupopo access to match accreditations, and $20,000 (approximately R344,000) for spraying chemicals in Lupopo’s locker room.
