The Amahoro Stadium in Rwanda will once again host CAF Champions League group stage matches after seven years.
Having become one of the central hubs for sports fans, the Rwanda Football Federation had previously approved three Sudanese clubs — Al Merrikh SC, Al Hilal SC, and El Ahli SC Wadi Medani — to compete in the Rwandan Premier League this season.
As a result, Al Hilal, which is competing in the CAF Champions League, will play its matches in Kigali. Thus, even though no Rwandan club is participating in the tournament, CAF Champions League matches will still be held in the country’s stadium.
Al Hilal is a strong side with the potential to progress well beyond the group stage. Therefore, this move could significantly enhance Rwanda’s visibility and recognition within the continent.
