The second round of matches in the CAF Champions League group stage has been completed. Throughout the first two weeks, important results were recorded and several teams gained significant advantages.
In Group A, the favorites RS Berkane and FC Pyramids easily defeated their opponents in both matches. Last season’s CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup champions are competing for the top spot with 6 points each and are also level on goal difference. Rivers United and Power Dynamos, on the other hand, failed to secure a win in either match and have made their path much more difficult.
In Group B, Al Ahly, who won their opening match, managed to maintain their lead with 4 points after drawing with AS FAR. After two weeks, the second place is held by Young Africans FC, who played out a goalless draw against JS Kabylie. AS FAR and JS Kabylie share third and fourth place with one point each.
In Group C, considered one of the toughest groups of the tournament, Mamelodi Sundowns and Sudan’s strong side Al Hilal are battling for the top position with 4 points apiece. MC Alger, the reigning Algerian champions, and FC Saint-Éloi Lupopo have both collected only 1 point so far.
Finally, Group D delivered several surprises. Simba, regarded as one of the favorites, suffered two defeats in their first two matches and remain at the bottom with zero points. Another strong team in the group, Esperance, recorded two draws and currently sit third. Atlético Petróleos de Luanda and Stade Malien lead the group with 4 points each.
