Burkina Faso’s transitional leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, has praised citizens and pan-African supporters for their unwavering patriotism and solidarity with his government’s anti-imperialist stance.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Traoré expressed gratitude to “peace-loving, freedom-loving patriots and pan-Africanists” across the country for supporting his administration’s push for a sovereign Burkina Faso and a reimagined Africa, free from external control.
“Our commitment and vision for a new Burkina Faso and a new Africa, free from imperialism and neo-colonialism, is shared by many of our people,” Traoré declared.
His remarks followed a series of public demonstrations and civil actions in various parts of the country on April 30, where citizens showed their support for the government’s stance on sovereignty, economic independence, and continental dignity.
According to Traoré, the visible support reinforces the legitimacy of the country’s path. “Your active solidarity and this demonstration of support strengthen our conviction that the fight we are waging for a fairer and more equitable world is justified,” he said.
Since assuming office in 2022 following a military takeover, Captain Traoré has consistently framed his administration’s policies as part of a broader continental movement to resist foreign domination. Under his leadership, Burkina Faso has strengthened regional partnerships with neighboring nations facing similar transitions and distanced itself from traditional foreign military and diplomatic influence.
“We will never bend in the face of adversity; we will stand firm until our peoples are truly emancipated,” he affirmed.
The transitional president concluded his address with a powerful call for unity: “Together, in solidarity, we will defeat imperialism and neo-colonialism for a free, dignified, and sovereign Africa.”
