The government of Burkina Faso has launched a comprehensive agricultural equipment distribution campaign to strengthen the agricultural sector and increase food security. At a ceremony held in the city of Bobo-Dioulasso on May 22, 2025, Transitional President Captain Ibrahim Traoré delivered the equipment to farmers and agricultural investors.
This support package, worth a total of 104 billion CFA francs (approximately $179 million), aims to increase the country’s agricultural production and promote rural development. The ceremony distributed 400 tractors, 239 motorcycles, 710 motor pumps, and 714 motorcycles for agricultural consultants.
The support for the agricultural sector was not limited to this. The government will also provide producers with 10,000 tons of fish feed, 68,964 tons of fertilizer, 10,000 liters of plant protection products, 18,000 tons of vegetable seeds, 2,300 tons of feed seeds, and 10,000 tons of concentrated feed.
The program is being financed by revenues from nationalized gold mining operations, officials said. This approach reflects Burkina Faso’s strategy of using natural resource revenues directly for agriculture and rural development.
This broad-based support aims to increase farmers’ production capacity, increase agricultural productivity, and encourage young people to enter the agricultural sector. The government’s move demonstrates its commitment to sustainable growth in agriculture and national food security.
